The reigning champions of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, would be eager to defend their championship in the 17th season of the wealthiest cricket competition in the world, the Indian Premier League 2024.
In the 14 seasons of the IPL, CSK has reached the knockout stage 12 times and won the championship five times. Winning in 2024 would be a fitting tribute to MS Dhoni, who might be playing his last season with CSK.
(Dhoni will continue to represent CSK with the No. 7 shirt. Given that he was born on July 7, 1981 [8-1 = 7], MS Dhoni selected the number. In honor of Dhoni, who captained India to two World Cup titles, the BCCI retired the No. 7 India shirt prior to the IPL.
At the December 2023 IPL auctions in Dubai, CSK, which is owned by Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd., a subsidiary of India Cements, purchased six new players for a total of Rs 30.4 crore. Daryl Mitchell, a batsman from New Zealand, was the only player to fetch Rs 14 crore, as CSK needed to find a middle-order batter to replace the retired Ambati Rayudu. Mitchell’s 552-run World Cup 2023 record increased his prospects.

The Chennai Super Kings have selected their players for the 2024 IPL season. They will participate in the auction on December 19, 2023, with Rs 20.45 crore left to spend after using Rs 68.6 crore of their budget. The team has won five IPL titles, including the latest one in 2023 against Gujarat Titans. Chennai Super Kings always aim to field their best players to secure victories in matches.
